Welcome to GISH PICKS: CURATED CULTURE FOR KIDS AND ADULTS! I’m Sarah Gish, an info-preneur and culture sleuth who finds the unusual and cool in Houston each and every week. Join me as I shine a light on Houston gems and unique Houston fun. I love Houston and want to show you the people and the places and the events that make it great (see more about my wishes for that here). And I want to make it easy for you so I sort through the cornucopia of events offered in our wonderful city each weekend and I PICK only three each for families and adults to recommend to you. That way you’ll be all set when Friday hits!

We are the most diverse city in the country, not only because of the over 100 languages spoken here every day, but also because of the diversity of events offered and places to hang our (cowboy) hats. Please be sure to tell your friends about GISH PICKS – the more people who know about these unique cultural events, the more unique cultural events the organizations will offer us. Please also tell the orgs that I sent you. My business grows by word of mouth so I thank you for your continued support. Here’s to many more years of GISH PICKS!

A note about the social media for GISH PICKS: please LIKE our Facebook page for family PICKS and our Facebook page for adult PICKS. Be sure to click “See first” in the dropdown menu on the LIKE button so you won’t miss a post! And please follow me on Instagram and Twitter. You’ll get all my CULTURE PICKS and more that way. And there’s one last way to stay in touch with me! I organize many events, such as labyrinth walks and workshops, so if you’d like to be informed of those before everyone else, please subscribe to my Gish Creative list here.

I do believe we are now in FULL HOLIDAY MODE! But don’t panic, all will be well. You don’t need to run all over place and go to all the parties and wear yourself out – instead, slow down and LISTEN. LISTEN to what your heart is telling you to do and LISTEN to the world around you with new ears. Enjoy your friends and family. Give gifts from the heart rather than gifts that break the bank. This week’s VIDEO PICK is a lovely one-hour meditation that took place at Rothko Chapel a few years ago. Give it a try and I swear it’ll calm you down and help you LISTEN more.

I’m a hard-working gal, bringing you GISH PICKS: curated culture for kids & adults week after week, so I decided to take a break this holiday season – for the first time ever! This might become a new tradition or perhaps I’ll be back these two weeks next year. I’ll have lots to share when I return – we’re working on THE SUMMER BOOK® ONLINE: A GUIDE TO HOUSTON DAY CAMPS AND CLASSES FOR KIDS AND TEENS already, plus I’ll have news about bringing culture to all parts of the greater Houston area – so stay tuned! And I’m pleased to announce that I’ll be debuting a new twelve-month series of articles in Natural Awakenings Magazine about my “IGNITE YOUR LIFE!” art project and community campaign. I have written “12 Ways to Ignite Your Life” (see the list here) and will tackle a different way each month. The first subject will be TRUST and I’ll share the article link next month.

Please kick back and enjoy the holiday season without me (I know you can do it!). Check out Houston’s ice skating spots in this article from a few years back (note: Space City Ice Station is closed) or take the kids to the Children’s Museum for my absolute favorite holiday tradition, their round-up of different faith celebrations, “Seasons of Sharing.” And you’ll find plenty of fun things to do with the help of the Greater Houston Convention and Visitor’s Bureau “Holidays in Houston” calendar and Artshound.

Make it a great holiday and I’ll “see” you in January! Oh – and go IGNITE YOUR LIFE, please share this, and please – LOVE ONE ANOTHER.
