THOUGHTS FOR THIS WEEK
Whew! Winter sure came to Houston! I hope you are staying warm and dry and that you have been able to get things done while trapped inside (thankfully, we have technology to connect us). Here’s something to entertain you: my friend Marla Grace came up with a list of questions for moms to ask their kids – which produces HILARIOUS answers (the younger the kids, the better). After I had a blast querying my two boys, I decided this would be fun for everyone, not just parent/child pairings. Update them a bit and then ask your spouse, your friends – anyone! It’s a great way to get to know each other better.
It’s a crazy time in our country – one in which diversity isn’t always accepted and women’s rights (= everyone’s rights) are at risk. So here are a couple of easy ways to combat those issues. For kids, read them books that celebrate differences – here are 6 that were recommended by PBS. You can have conversations about what’s going on right now and you can also talk about the people you see in your world.
And this Saturday, January 20, starting at 9:30am, is the Houston Women’s March. It’s a look back at the one-year anniversary of the historic marches around the world and is a commitment to creating a country that welcomes all races, ethnicities, genders, faiths, and other unique expressions of our common, shared humanity. Voter registration will be available and there will be a number of guest speakers from various parts of our community as well as an appearance by Kam Franklin of the popular local band, the Suffers. It will be an invigorating event and I hope you will join me!
Have a great weekend and please love one another, please share this, and please – go IGNITE YOUR LIFE!
